While the general idea of meditation is to sit cross-legged on a cushion, the reality is that life itself is a meditation. It is not so much about what you are 'doing', as where you are coming from moment to moment that makes the difference.
Sitting quietly and comfortably on a cushion and removing most of the outer distractions is a good place to begin to practise bringing this awareness into your life. Over time, you will find that this will become more natural during your day-to-day activities as well.
Meditation & Mindfulness gives you the opportunity to see through the distractions of life and tune into your authentic self ... your soul. You are your consciousness, and what you meditate upon, you become. From this you can see that a regular meditation practice is a great inclusion in your lifestyle. It can help to transform your relationship to life itself and how you react and respond to situations. Remember, you are the one constant in your life, so when you let go of resistance and find more ease with yourself, you will find that this flows on to all situations and relationships in your life.
It can be difficult to grasp what meditation is and the best way to come to understand and appreciate it, is to experience it for yourself.
Here are a few quotes that help give more clarity about meditation & mindfulness ...
'If you are willing to experience anything directly and immediately, whether good or bad, joyous or hateful, you will recognize that what you are running from does not exist, and what you are running toward is already here.' Gangaji
'Self-wholeness is won by no longer following the ideas that
have produced a lack of it.' Vernon Howard
'Higher consciousness doesn't try to control events, because its timeless nature is already a partner in guiding creation itself, so what has it to fear?’ Guy Finley
'The natural is obtained after a clear recognition of the unnatural
causes us to drop it.' Vernon Howard
'The most sublime truth of all has never been stated, or written, or sung. Not because it is far away and cannot be reached but because it is so intimately close. It is too close to be described, objectified, or known, yet it is yours already. It is alive and present as the stillness that is the core of your being.' Gangaji
'If you begin to understand what you are without trying to change it, then what you are undergoes a transformation.'
J Krishnamurti
'First we must see that we cannot will ourselves to be open because openness is our very nature. Any tiny residue of willing, of wanting to be open takes us away from what we are.' Jean Klein
